Our great-grandfather Antonio was a winemaker in his native Galicia, Spain. When he immigrated to Cuba, to the vibrant streets of La Habana, he was affectionately known as El Gallego—the Galician. In La Habana, Antonio’s journey shifted from vineyards to breweries, where he embraced his new home with the same passion. This photo captures him driving a horse-drawn beer wagon for Cerveza Polar.
In 1951, a small bar in Havana called La Cuevita (The Little Cave) became a gathering place for locals and legends alike. According to family lore, Ernest Hemingway frequented the bar, enjoying one of his favorite Daiquiris. Pictured far left in this photo is our abuelo, Ramón, a guajiro who worked his way from the sugar cane fields to bustling Havana, where he and his brothers founded La Cuevita.
